As you can see the event was held under the banner of the Strasbourg Soooo British festival which I have written about before in January here. Like other events that are part of the festival it was opened by the UK Representative to the Council of Europe, Eleanor Fuller,(Pictured with Martyn below) who was somewhat held up chairing the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
There was a good turn-out from members of TAGORA, the English speaking theatre group Martyn is active in and has previously decorated props and scenery for. Something he has done again for the forthcoming production, ‘Oh What A Lovely War!‘, which he also has a number of roles in.
Having studied art in London before working as an interior decorator, Martyn’s pictures were of rooms and stairways (Like the one pictured which was bought by a friend) and then developed into the more abstract light and water pictures like the one on the invite pictured above.
Martyn was one of three sets of artists displaying their art at the Council of Europe. One was another painter who did collections of pictures and words representing different European cities or countries. Also exhibiting are students of L’École supérieure des arts décoratifs de la Ville de Strasbourg.
After the presentation of the artists we were regaled by a duo playing Greensleeves, What Shall We Do With The Drunken Sailor and work by Handel on the violin and cello as a nice end to a very nice event. If you are interested in Martyn’s paintings he can be contacted at Martynpaul(at)aol(dot)com.
